VCC Recruiting Update

Vermont Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Lahiru ‘Larry’ Fernando has signed on to play with the club in season 2023/24 and beyond.

Larry has recently played at East Burwood Cricket Club competing in the Ray McIntosh Shield in the BHRDCA where last season he was the equal leading wicket taker for the RMS competition tallying 29 wickets for the season at an average of 19.07. Also a middle order batsman, he made 223 runs at an average of 24.78 for the 2022/23 season.

Prior to his time at EBCC, Larry spent three years in the South West Cricket Association playing for Pomborneit Cricket Club near Colac, Victoria. In his last season at Pomborneit, he took 40 wickets at an average of 7.50 while also making 220 runs with the bat. Larry has also represented the South West Cricket Association in the Victoria Country Cricket League competition in season 2018/19.

The club is also pleased to confirm that Weranga ‘Bula’ Bulathwala has again signed on to continue playing at Vermont Cricket Club next season. Bula has enjoyed his time at VCC over the last two seasons and is super keen to continue on with us once again.

We can also confirm that Shehan Kudage-Don, the 2022/23 VCC Club Champion, has committed to Vermont for next season and is very eager to help lead the team and bring home the Ray Mac Shield.

Along with these signings, the club will continue to invest in our younger players coming through from our Junior teams, and we look forward to seeing more of our exciting talent emerging into the Senior ranks this coming season and into the future. With our recruiting, player retention and the backing of our upcoming Junior talent, we look forward to a very positive & strong season ahead.
